Due West, SC – Erskine College outfielder Bryan Fogle, the 2010 NCAA Division II National Player of the Year, was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 32nd round of the Major League Draft Wednesday afternoon. The Rays are currently leading the American League Eastern Division with a MLB best 39-20 record.
This season, Bryan hit .430 with 23 doubles, 28 home runs and 103 RBI’s. He led the nation in home runs, RBI’s, and total bases; while finishing in the top 10 in six other categories. His outstanding season led to him being named the consensus Player of the Year as well as first team All-American. During the past season he also broke the NCAA career records for home runs (73), RBI’s (310), and total bases (630).
“I am extremely proud of Bryan,” commented head coach Kevin Nichols. “He has worked hard for the last for years and now he is going to be able to live a dream that almost every boy has growing up.”
