Lady Fleet Finish 6th in Conference Golf Tournament

Clemmons, NC- Erskine women’s golf finished 6th of 8 today in the Conference Carolinas Championship. Belmont Abbey earned the team title as they cruised past all challengers.
Fleet freshman Courtney Balcome stepped up to lead Erskine this week and earned herself a top 20 finish. Balcome shot rounds of 83, 93, and 81 for a 20th place finish. Sophomore Lauren Johns progressively improved with each round to finish 24th overall and only three strokes behind Balcome. Johns picked up strokes each round shooting 88, 87, and 85.
Janna Bontreger’s consistent play put her a mere three strokes back from Johns. Bontreger hit for rounds of 88, 87, and 88 for a 27th place finish. Megan Katch finished in 28th with rounds of 88, 86, and 92. Sophomore Tiffany Hutchinson also competed for the Fleet. Hutchinson shot rounds of 87, 90, and 92 for a 30th place finish.
The women’s team made great strides in this their second season of play. The Flying Fleet picked up their first tournament team victory at the Montreat College Spring Invitational and had their first individual winner in Tiffany Hutchinson at the same tournament. Erskine will shut it down and rest up for exams before beginning to train for another great season in 2010-2011.
