Sumter, SC – #2 Erskine defeated #1 Queens University 5 to 3 to win the Conference Carolinas Women’s Tennis Tournament Championship for the sixth consecutive year. Erskine entered the tournament as the #2 seed after Queens defeated the Fleet 5 to 4 back in March.
In the doubles segment, Erskine and Queens split the top two flights. Tessa Rheult and Britton Bignon beat Morgan Roberts and Hewit Hawn 8 to 4 in the #1 doubles position while Christina Engleberth and Erin Williams shutout the Erskine freshman duo of Abby O’Reilly and Victoria Stephens 8 to 0 in the #2 doubles slot. In a very close third match, Erskine’s Nikki Miller and Hannah Fisher prevailed 9 to 8 to win the second doubles point. In singles play, Britton Bignon, Abby O’Reilly and Victoria Stephens easily won their matches in straight sets to clinch the tournament championship for the Fleet. Britton Bignon was named Tournament MVP while Victoria Stephens and Abby O’Reilly were named to the All-Tourney Team.
Erskine now waits for their seeding for the NCAA Regional tournament to be played May 7th through May 9th.
