Greenwood, SC- Erskine senior Patrick Wilson and sophomore Joel Sawyer led the Flying Fleet to a 7th place finish in the Lander University Bearcat Golf Invitational earlier this week.  This dynamic duo led the charge as the Fleet placed very well in the 15 team field defeating several conference and regional opponents.

Wilson and Sawyer opened round one on Monday, each shooting rounds of 71 which put them five strokes off the leader, Francisco Bide of Georgia College.  Sawyer was able to pick up a stroke during round two as he shot 70 while Wilson remained consistent and hammered out another 71.  Neither could make up any ground on the leaders.  Davis Lee of Lander lead round two with an impressive 63.

Wilson remained consistent during round three as he only dropped one stroke to shoot 72 to finish the tournament tied for 18th place in the field of 84.  Sawyer began to fade a bit, shooting 76 for round three which dropped him to 25th place for the tournament.

Brandon Hansen also competed very well for the Fleet this week.  Hansen consistently picked up strokes throughout the tournament shooting rounds of 76,73, and 72 to earn a 41st place finish.

Also competing for the Fleet were Joe Anderson and Mike Assey who tied for 66th place.  Anderson shot rounds of 76, 76, and 79 while Assey went 76, 78, and 77.
