Due West, SC – The Fleet coasted by the Crusaders of Belmont-Abbey 67 to 55 in Conference Carolinas basketball action.  The Flying Fleet (9-12 overall, 6-9 conference) never trailed while the Crusaders (11-10 overall, 7-8 conference) only managed to tie the game once early at 13 a piece.  Erskine held an eleven point lead at halftime (32 to 21) and worked the lead to as many as nineteen points in the second half.

 

Statistically, the Fleet were equally as dominating.  Erskine shot an impressive 55% on the night while Belmont-Abbey only hit 41% from the field.  Erskine controlled the boards as well, out rebounding the Crusaders 31 to 20.  The Fleet also got to the free throw line 22 times and made 16 compared to Belmont-Abbey’s 10 for 16 from the charity strip.

 

Individually, Brandon Wright paced the Fleet with a game-high 24 points.  Dejan Nedelkovski contributed 12 points while Chris Gore scored 11 points in the paint.  Chris Gore also pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds as well.  The Crusaders were led by Richard Barbee’s 20 points and 7 rebounds.

 

Prior to the game, Brandon Wright was presented the game ball from Saturday’s basketball game.  On that night, Brandon Wright broke Erskine’s forty year old career scoring record set by Mike Jenkins in 1970.  Brandon Wright is currently only 12 points away from becoming Erskine’s first player to score 2,000 or more points in a career.

 

The Fleet finish their five game home stand this Thursday night against Pfeiffer University.  Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
