Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet blasted six home runs Wednesday afternoon and took a 14-2 victory over Atlanta Christian College in non conference baseball action.
Erskine took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a solo blast to center field from
Bryan Fogle (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School). That home run was the 46th of his career and broke a tie that he had with Robbie Knapp for the school record.
Mo Seay (Anderson, SC, Wofford College) would hit a two run home run in the bottom of the second to push the lead to 3-0. The Fleet would then tack on two more runs in the inning on RBI singles by
Casey Winckowski (Oregon, OH, Owens CC) and
Chas Anthony (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School) to make it a 5-0 game.
The Chargers would cut the lead to 5-2 in the fifth inning on a two run double by KC Lorow, but that would be the only runs they would score in the game. The Fleet would break the game wide open in the sixth inning with a pair of two run home runs by Fogle and
John Bolding (Pickens, SC, Pickens HS) to make the score 10-2 and then cruise to the victory.
Anthony led Erskine at the plate going 3-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, Fogle finished the game 2-4 with two home runs and three RBI’s, while Winckowski was 2-4 with a home run and three RBI’s.
Matt Wantz (Chardon, OH, Lakeland CC) hit the Fleet’s sixth home run of the game with a two run blast in the seventh inning in his first at bat of the season.
Carlton Watts (Laurens, SC, Spartanburg Methodist) struck out a career high eight batters and allowed two runs on four hits in six innings of work to pick up his first victory of the season.
The Fleet improve to 2-0 on the season and will host #12 Francis Marion tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm.
