Due West, SC- Erskine men’s tennis slipped to 3-9 overall after their loss to the University of West Alabama Friday afternoon 3-6. The Flying Fleet took the quick 1-0 advantage after #1 doubles, but West Alabama’s depth proved too much for Erskine.
Caleb Barnes and Angelo Ciarrocchi gave the Fleet the early advantage as they took down Gardner/Cruz of West Alabama 8-2 at #1 doubles. But the Tigers responded to take the remaining two points during doubles action.
The Flying Fleet got a jump on the Tigers in singles as well as Erskine’s Nemanja Brcan defeated Renat Shayhaykhelislamov at #1 singles and Barnes beat James Gardner in a close match at #2 singles. But West Alabama took remaining singles points on their way to the 6-3 victory.
Erskine will head to Hilton Head Island this coming week for their annual Spring Break tournament.
