Charlotte, NC- Five of the six Erskine men’s cross country runners set new personal bests Friday evening at the UNC-Charlotte Invitational, including Adam Groblewski’s incredible school record performance of 25:54.9!
The Flying Fleet brought their A game to Charlotte Friday evening as they hammered the 8k course averaging 27:20 as a team and defeated Conference Carolinas opponents Anderson, Mount Olive, Limestone, Pfeiffer, and Coker.
Groblewski led the charge with his record breaking 25:54.9. This makes Groblewski the first Erskine runner to ever break the 26:00 barrier, but he will surely not be the last. “I feel like I have more in me,” remarked the senior after the race. This was a :37.1 improvement on Groblewski’s previous school record of 26:32. Senior Joseph Sell came in next for Erskine as he ran a strong 26:50, his first time sub-27:00. Sell’s previous best was 27:29. Chas Culberson continued his consistent improvement with a strong 27:03. Sophomore Matt Diaz dropped another 1:01 off his personal best with a strong 28:08 performance. Chance Ellison rounded out the Fleet’s top 5 with a strong time of 28:44. Robert McCarthy ran the biggest PR of the day as he ran 31:05, 1:45 faster than ever before.
Erskine will return to action in 3 weeks at the Conference Carolina Championships where they look to finish towards the top of the field.
