Charlotte, NC- Super-Sophomore Chas Culberson shined this past weekend at the Conference Carolinas championship as he held his own among the upperclassmen.
Culberson was the second finisher for the men’s team this weekend, as he finished the 8k course in 26:38 and earning All-Conference Honors. This was yet another huge personal best for the sophomore. Culberson, who ran 28:49 at last years conference championship, has stepped it up this year and will prove to be a strong force for years to come.
Senior Adam Groblewski led the Fleet again this week with another excellent race. Groblewski started the race conservatively and passed people through the entire 8k course eventually pulling all the way to 8th place and finishing in a strong time of 25:59. Groblewski now owns Erskine’s top 3 8k times. Earlier in the season, Groblewski broke his own record of 26:32 with an astounding 25:54, then he came back this weekend for another sub-26:00 performance making him the best cross country runner to come through Erskine’s program.
Senior Joseph Sell, battling a severe chest cold, finished third for the Fleet in 27:49. The sickness caused Sell to run about a minute slower than usual. Sophomore Matt Diaz placed fourth for the Fleet and Robert McCarthy rounded out Erskine’s top 5. Senior Chance Ellison did not compete at this weekend’s championship meet.
The Fleet return to Due West for some heavy training before hitting the road for the NCAA II Southeast Regional Championships on November 7.
