Due West, SC- The Erskine College women's basketball team hosted North Greenville University on Wednesday night at Belk Arena. NGU took an early lead and controlled the tempo for the majority of the game resulting in a 72-61 loss for the Fleet.
From the opening minutes, NGU took charge and didn't look back. In the first half they shot a blistering 57.1% from the field and 100% from behind the arc while the Fleet shot a mere 24.2% from the field and 16.7% from 3 point range. NGU's sharp shooting sent them into half with the lead of 38-19.
During the second half, the Fleet significantly improved their shooting (43.3% FG, 41.7% 3pt) but were unable to completely close the gap before the end of regulation. NGU held the Fleet at bay ending the game with the 72-61 victory.
The Fleet were led by sophomore guard Audrey Timmerman who had a game high 15 pts and 6 rebounds. Sophomore Mary Ann Langford also aided the Fleet surge with 14 points and Junior Lacey Williams contributed 13 pts and 8 rebounds to bring the Fleet closer to NGU within the final minutes.
NGU had 4 of their 5 starters in double figures led by Eboni Davis with 14 points on the evening. Also for NGU, Debbie Wyatt and Nikki Wood each had 13 pts, while Robin Warner had 11. Amanda Milner played well as she posted 7 pts and gathered 10 rebounds.
The Fleet will be back in action on December 15 as they hit the road to Wingate University. Game time is 5:00.
