Due West, SC- Erskine held nationally ranked USC-Aiken to 58 points on Wednesday evening in Belk Arena. The low scoring game was very close until the final 11:00 when the Pacers were able to make a run and pull away from the Fleet resulting in the 40-58 loss for the Fleet.
The first half scoring was incredibly low on both sides. Neither team shot well as USC-A shot 36% from the field and 15.4% from 3 point land while Erskine shot a mere 30% from field goal range and 12.5% from behind the arc. Poor shooting resulted in the Pacers leading at half 21-16.
The tempo significantly picked up during the second half and each team pushed to put points on the board. The Fleet shot much better from the field during the second half (44%) but the Pacers still managed to pull away during the final 11:00 of the second half. The Pacers hit 7/19 from behind the arc during the second half while EC only managed to hit 2 from behind the arc. The Pacers also converted on 6/8 from the foul line while Erskine did not attempt any free throws. With 11:00 to go in the game, Erskine was within 1 point, but the athletic Pacers were able to pull away and take home the victory 58-40.
The Fleet were led again by senior guard TJ Taylor who had 14 points on the evening. Taylor was the only Erskine player in double digits. USC-A was led by Jeremy Fears who had 14 points and 7 rebounds.
The Fleet will be on the road this weekend as they head to Brevard on Saturday. Game time is 5:00.
