MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Mount Olive remained unbeaten in conference play with an 87-42 victory over Erskine in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action onSaturday at Kornegay Arena. The victory advanced the Trojans to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Fleet fall to 0-4 on the season, 0-2 in conference action.
Mount Olive built a double-digit lead less than six minutes into the game. The lead grew to as many as 22 points as Monroe scored nine of her 11 first-half points in a span of three minutes as her steal and end-to-end layup gave the Trojans a 29-7 advantage with 7:06 left in the first half.
Erskine limited Mount Olive to one field goal over the next five minutes and Alneica Allen’s back-to-back field goals pulled the Flying Fleet within 16 (32-15) with 2:41 remaining. But the Trojans scored the final seven points of the half to give Mount Olive a 38-15 lead at intermission.
In the second half, Mount Olive continued their sharp shooting and built their lead to 46 points at one time.
Mount Olive outrebounded Erskine 42-26 as Brittany Miller pulled down a career-high nine rebounds. The Trojans have scored at least 85 points in each of their first three conference games this season.
Alneica Allen led Erskine with 11 points, while Lacey Williams pulled down a team-high six rebounds for the Flying Fleet.
Mount Olive is back in action on December 12 as they host to Apprentice (Va.) in a non-conference match-up. Erskine plays host to North Greenville this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
