Due West, SC- The Lady Fleet hosted Pfeiffer this homecoming in a match that would prove to be a nail-biter. A close game as it went through regulation and one overtime at a tie, but Pfeiffer slipped past Erskine during the second overtime and took home the 3-2 victory. This loss dropped the Fleet to 3-7 overall.
The game seemed to be in the hands of Pfeiffer early on as they had two goals before the midway point of the first half. The first came from Kristen Barsch as she made good on a rebound. Megan Blevins was responsible for the second goal which was assisted by Tiffany Caudle. Being down 2-0 it did not look good for the Fleet, but in the final minute of the first half freshman Amanda Tinker was able to revive the Fleet hope as she buried a shot from the left wing, the goal was assisted by Kendal Shaffer. This sent the Fleet into the half only down 1-2, and with momentum on their side.
During the second half the Fleet were able to hold off Pfeiffer's aggressive offense and managed to put another one in the back of the net to even the score. This time it was freshman Taylor Craft who was able to convert, sending the game into overtime.
The first overtime was fruitless as neither team was able to end the match. The second 10 minute overtime was where the match fell apart for the Fleet. Madison Kerth of Pfeiffer was able to break away as the ball was played over the Fleet defensive line giving her an easy approach to the goal. This play was controversial, but nonetheless Kerth converted to end the match, 3-2.
This game was freshman goalkeeper Si'Ara Washington's first since her injury midway through September. She played an incredible game, making 6 saves and playing the full 90 minutes.
The Lady Fleet will take the field again on October 9 as they head to Belmont, NC to take on Belmont Abbey.
