DUE WEST, SC---The Erskine College baseball will hold its winter hitting clinic on Saturday December 8 and a pitching clinic the following Saturday December 15, both days will run from 1-5 pm.
Head baseball coach Kevin Nichols will lead the hitting clinic on the eighth. In eight seasons under Nichols, the Fleet has broken every offensive record in the schools long history. The 2005 season was no exception when the offense finished the season ranked #1 in the CVAC in batting avg. (.356 #5 in the nation) and finishing ranked #3 in the nation in scoring at 9.9 runs per game. The Fleet also led the nation in homeruns and doubles in 2005. Over the past eight seasons the Fleet have consistently finished ranked in the top ten in the nation in homeruns, doubles, runs batted in, and runs, during Nichols tenure. Coach Nichols also coached Shelton Cisson who broke the NCAA Division II career hits and doubles in 2007.
Associate head coach Chad Amidon will lead the pitching clinic on the 15th. Coach Amidon serves as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Fleet. As a pitching coach, the Fleet has broken numerous school records, including most career saves which is also an NCAA record set by Jake Williams with 32 career saves. The staff has seen major improvements in every statistical category in Amidon’s tenure as well as leading the conference in numerous pitching categories. As a recruiter, the Fleet has averaged 6 freshmen in the starting line up since taking over as recruiting coordinator. The 2006 class has seen 8 freshmen contributing in major roles to the Fleet’s success. 3 of those freshman received all-conference selections. Also, the Fleet's top 3 conference arms happened to be freshman who accounted for 20 of the Fleet’s 36 wins. The 5 position players averaged a .320 batting average, 32 homeruns and well over 150 runs batting in.
