DUE WEST, SC-- Erskine and Mt. Olive Women's Soccer Teams played for 110 minutes at Huggins Field on Saturday afternoon and when all was said and done, the two evenly matched teams walked away with a 1-1 tie. Two first half goals were all the teams could muster between them. Mt. Olive appeared to have the only noticeable advantage, as the Trojans substituted seven different players into the match while Gary Winchester's depth-free Fleet saw every starter play the entire 90 minutes of regulation plus the two ten minute overtime periods.
Erskine got on the board first at 23;23 mark when freshman Amanda Tinker (Woodruff, SC) took a Tory Lybrand (Anderson, SC) cross and drilled it in the left corner past Mt. Olive goalie Ali O'Steen. The 1-0 lead didn't last long. Six minutes later the Trojans Jackie Jimenez took advantage of a loose ball in front of the net and slipped it past Erskine freshman goalie Si'Ara Washington (Mt. Pleasant, SC).
From that point on, the two teams both had chances, but neither O'Steen or Washington would allow anything in the net. Both goalies picked up on four saves on the day. Erskine did manage to barely out-shoot the Trojans, 9-8.
Erskine's Tinker nearly added high drama in the game's final seconds. As the clocked ticked down to 00:00 in double overtime, Tinker narrowly missed the right post as time expired.
Erskine now stands at 3-8-1 on the season and 2-4-1 in Conference Carolinas. Mt. Olive picked up their third tie of the season as they are currently 5-6-3 and 3-1-3 in Conference Carolinas. Erskine next plays against Limestone at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Huggins Field.
