Women's Tennis Come Out Strong at Fall Conference Carolinas Tournament
SID

Due West, SC-  The Erskine women's tennis team traveled to Sumter, SC this past weekend to compete in the fall conference tournament.  The trip proved to be a great success as senior Jennifer Gennaoui took the singles championship and the Fleet were able to win 2 of the 3 doubles flights at the tournament.

Gennaoui earned her #1 seed as she went 3-0 in the singles A Flight bringing home the individual title as she defeated Queen's Marissa Rock in the championship match (6-3, 6-2), the only player she lost to last season.  Freshman Brandi Cordell made a good showing in  the #2 position for the Fleet this weekend.  She was able to make it to the second round of the A Flight, but fell to Rock in the third set.  But Cordell was able to bounce back and win the back draw.  Fellow freshman Britton Bignon played very well in the B Flight and was able to advance to the finals before she was defeated.  Senior Katie Holmes also made a good showing in the C Flight of the singles matches as she also advanced to the finals.

The Fleet also played extremely well in the doubles portion of the tournament as Britton Bignon and Jenna Tudor won the B Flight and Katie Holmes and Hannah Howerton also went 3-0 to win the C Flight.

This tournament was a great success for the Fleet.  Coach Parr comments: "This weekend was a strong showing for us, especially for the new additions to our team.  I was very pleased with the outcome of the tournament."

The Lady Fleet will be back on the road this coming weekend as they head to the ITA Tournament.
