Columbia, SC- Erskine women's tennis traveled to USC-Columbia this weekend to compete in the Southern Intercollegiate. The Fleet stood strong against stiff competitors such as USC, West Virginia, Winthrop, College of Charleston and others bringing home several singles and doubles victories.
The tournament featured 8 singles flights and 8 doubles flights. Freshman Brandi Cordell was the star performer for the Fleet this weekend as she defeated Sofia Haggstrom from Armstrong Atlantic University (2-6, 6-4, 6-1). This was a great victory as AAU is a strong force in the region. Erskine's Casey Knox also made a strong stand as she defeated Kristin Gordon of East Carolina (6-2, 6-7, 6-3). Jenna Tudor also won two matches against Marian Jane of Western Carolina (6-2, 6-4) and Precious Bryant from Benedict (6-0, 6-0).
In doubles action, Erskine's #1 team of Jennifer Gennaoui and Brandi Cordel went 2-1 on the weekend. They defeated Ksiezopolski/Sanjines of UTC and Fadina/Bekmetova of WV but lost to USC's McGovock/Jocic. Erskine's #2 team of Britton Bignon and Jenna Tudor defeated Dyar/Howard of College of Charleston. Also in doubles play, Katie Holmes and Hannah Howerton went 2-1 for the weekend defeated Lopes/Clark of Benedict and Schwartz/Tuckman of College of Charleston.
This tournament finished the Lady Fleet's fall season. They had strong showings from all and are now going to get geared up to defend their regular season and conference championships. The spring season opens on February 2 with an away match against North Georgia College.
