Men's Soccer Fall to Mars Hill 3-0
SID

Due West, SC- Erskine men's soccer lost 3-0 to Mars Hill College on this hot Saturday afternoon.  The Fleet fall to 1-1 following this loss.

Each team came out very aggressive and physical.  A key Erskine defender was ejected late in the first half leaving a large hole in the Fleet defense.  Soon after the ejection Mars Hill's Nick Cartwright was able to put one in the back of the net as he headed the ball in off of a corner kick by Rury Caulfield.  This sent the Lions into the half up 1-0.

Mars Hill struck again early in the second half.  Less than 3:00 had ticked off the clock when Ernest Sobers converted for the Lions second goal as he headed the ball in off of a cross from Daniel Goforth putting Mars Hill up 2-0.  The Lions third and final goal came during the 71st minute when Caulfield scored as a result of an indirect kick. He was assisted by David Robb.

Mars Hill's goalkeeper Sean Merfeld and Erskine keeper Ronnie Murray each recorded 3 saves on the afternoon.

Today's physical match  saw a total of 6 yellow cards and 2 ejections as each team battled until the final whistle.  After Erskine lost a defender, they were forced to play a man down for the rest of the match.  With this hole in the defense, the Fleet had to drop back and play a defensive game attempting to compensate for being outnumbered.

The Fleet will return to action on Wednesday as they host Brevard College.  Kick off is scheduled for 7:00.
