The Tornados had a chance to take an early lead, when in the 24th minute Fernando Sandoval was able to get on a breakaway and put a shot through two Erskine defenders. However, the shot hit directly off the front left post and bounded back out into play right at the feet of an Erskine defender.
The Flighting Fleet made good on their best chance in the first half, when at the 33:30 mark Erskine’s Simon Morris put a shot in a wide open net after a blocked shot by BC’s keeper Trevor Redpath bounced back to the feet of Morris. BC got on the board with a little help from an Erskine defender. At the 76:35 mark the Tornados Kyle Stanforth put a laser shot on goal from just in front of the net that was deflected by Erskine’s keeper Jimmy Turner. The ball bounded off Turner and headed back toward the goal where an Erskine defender trying to clear the ball out of the goal area, knocked it into the side of the goal, knotting the score up at 1-1.
The game would wind down to a 1-1 tie, forcing an overtime period.
In the overtime frame Erskine was able to punch in the game winning goal with only 1:20 remaining in the period, as Franz Destin scored on a breakaway squeaking the ball past a diving Redpath to win the game 2-1.
